This equipment manufacturer has enjoyed a long history as the leader in the field of precision measurements. For over 40 years, they have been a leading provider of laboratory equipment.  This application involved an existing overhead mixer design that was to be used for grinding, or “homogenizing” plant seed materials, such as corn kernels, to dust for DNA analysis.  The application has extremely high torque requirements and a tough reliability specification.

The Challenge

The customer needed a motor to fit within an existing product design, and had a stringent performance specification.  The application demands high torque and speed from the motor.

The Solution

  • DC motor with customized output shaft geometry and end bell modifications for high torque
  • Special heat-treating of the output shaft for strength under load
  • Rigorous testing to prove long operating life for a very expensive laboratory homogenizer
