| DC Motor with Right Angle Reducer |
This OEM produces automated smoke curtains which lower at elevator doors in the event of a fire. They had tested three other brands of gearmotors to operate their curtains, and all had failed.
The Challenge
This is the Challenge content.
- A Gearmotor which could operate in a wide range of curtain configurations
- High reliability especially after prolonged periods of inactivity
- Low cost to maintain competitiveness
- Small package for a tight envelop
- Power to be applied at a right angle to the motor
The Solution
This is the Solution content:
- A DC (permanent magnet DC) motor with reduced length
- Right-angle worm gear reducer with 30-1 ratio
- Composite reducer housing
- Non-replaceable brushes
The Groschopp solution resulted from extensive work with the OEM, and also with a manufacturer of cast composite material to create a strong, but less expensive motor reducer housing. The intermittent duty cycle permitted cost optimization with a smaller motor and use of non-replaceable brushes.
