Brushless DC Motor with Hardened Shaft

This OEM is a leading manufacturer of metering pumps, flowmeters, and water treatment accessories. Groschopp has been supplying motors to the company for its pumps for many years, and Groschopp motors are used in all its new designs. The company has been moving to more value added designs, and needed a motor for a peristaltic pump to treat drinking water with chlorine in water treatment plants.

The Challenge

• The motor needed to be very small and have high torque
• Motor must be programmable and be able to adjust speed rapidly to regulate flow
• Shaft wear is a problem due to stress and chemical exposure
• Extremely tight shaft tolerances in order to mate with cam mechanism in pump

The Solution

• Brushless DC Motor with high torque in small package
• Custom designed chrome plated shaft to prevent corrosion
• Shaft is hardened by heat treating to withstand stress

After two years of extensive testing, the motor has not failed.
